Can't be completely confident about this, but I think you can do it with a suitable version of EOS Utility (not sure what the last one to support the 20D was) and whatever driver the 20D requires.

Once you have done this you will need to install software that does the job. The problem is that Canon have dropped support for direct connection of the 20D under recent versions of Windows, and I think you will either need to find a machine running XPSP2/3, or run under XP Mode after installing it under Win7Pro or above. You might want to do this: (a) to dowload files – but this is better donw with a card reader anyhow (b) to enter your name in the camera as owner (and/or remove any previously entered name) (c) to control the camera remotely, that is, by a USB wired connection to your PC. If you want to be able to connect the camera directly to your PC, then you may have a problem. Provided you transfer files from your camera by taking the CF card out and putting it in a card reader attached to the PC, this will all work fine reagrdless of whether your PC is running XP, Vista, or Win7, and regardless of whether it is a 32-bit or 64-bit system. I only ever use it to enter text information in the Comment field – for some bizarre reason DPP cannot do this, although the contents can be read. Install the latest version of ZoomBrowser if you want, but there is very little point in doing so. Next, what do you need? The latest version of Digital Photo Professional is central.

The security on this is very lightweight – the installer just inspects some registry entries. The problem is that the programs you can download from Canon are updaters that look for some Canon software already in place before installing the new (full) version.
